Here are the responses from Dr. Shahab Mahboubian, with his updated pricing and details for 2014.

1. How many patients have been treated by you for Cosmetic Leg Lengthening?
15 and counting...

2. Which techniques do you use?
PRECICE, Lengthening and Then Nailing (LATN), Lengthening Over Nail (LON), and ISKD

3. How much do you your currently charge for cosmetic LL for each procedure?
I provide the lowest cost estimate in the United States.  I have been able to reduce my fees using the PRECICE system to $65,000 for bilateral femur lengthening, and $69,000 for bilateral tibia lengthening, but that is for MMT members only! If using external fixation, the price can be as low as $45,000. The price includes the cost of surgery, implant, anesthesia, 2 night stay at the hospital, and in-house physical therapy while at the hospital.

4. What are the lengthening limits for your procedures?
Every individual is different because of their anatomy and age.  If the PRECICE 2 lengthening device is used, the current limitation is 8 cm.  If the LATN or LON technique is used, patients can gain 8 cm or more, if their body accommodates the lengthening well.

5. Do your patients need to do any preparation before for their treatment?
Stretching of their legs (calves, quads and hamstrings) always helps since the muscles and tendons are what limit joint motion when they become tight during the lengthening procedure.

6. Is accommodation included in your pricing?

7. Are there any medical conditions that would prevent a potential patient from being accepted?
Patients with bone infection, cancer, Vit D deficiency, severe medical problems or any form of body dysmorphic syndrome would not qualify for the procedure.

8. In what percentage of cases do your patients experience complications?
Less than 5%.

9. Are complications or unscheduled surgery covered in your costs?
If the patient has insurance, they may be covered through their insurance. If no insurance is available, the patient will be responsible for the additional costs, but i will try my best to help the patient to keep costs at a minimal.

10. Is there any insurance available to cover the patient's treatment?
Not for cosmetic lengthening.

11. What is your official website?, (Limb Lengthening Institute of Los Angeles)

12. How much do you charge for a consultation?

13. What is the best way for potential patients to contact you?
Email me directly at or or call my office:

10640 Riverside Drive
North Hollywood, CA 91602
Office: (818) 322-0126
Fax: (818) 755-8904

14. Do you limit your services to people of a certain height?
No. Each individual is treated on a cases by case basis

15. What is your policy for people who are suffering from depression or some other mental health issue, or have suffered from it in the past?
Patients will need a consultation with a psychologist.

16. Is there any other information that you would like to have included?
Please visit my web site for further information: or

If you plan to come to Los Angeles for a consultation, please make sure to rent a car or have transportation available.  You will have many places to see and things that you will want to do during your visit.  You will also need an additional day to obtain your full leg-length xrays at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills. Looking forward to seeing you in sunny Southern California.

Depending on the diagnosis of a patient, it is possible that part of the treatment may be able to be covered by health insurance.  The only way this will be determined is to come in for a consultation and be examined.
