Title: New Member Class - "Certified Members"
Post by: SysOp on September 28, 2013, 12:44:21 PM
Some members of this board have been abusing PMs and spamming and trolling other members of the site. Because of this I am shutting down the functionality of normal members being able to send PMs for the time being. Only LL Veterans, LL Patients, LL Heros LL Legends and Certified Members will be able to send PMs. If you want to become a certified member, you have to send me an email and I will have an approval process for becoming a certified member.

So when will I be the hero on the white horse?  ;D
I mean, I survived the war with a doctor which we can't speak about, that MUST have been terrible a la Ivan1989....

Jokes aside now(even though it's Saturday) but I'm not a patient anymore  ;)

Good decision!

Edit: And answer my PM. It's not spamming......

Are you an LL Veteran now or do you want to wait to be one after you have defeated ballerina foot? It's really up to you. You let me know. :)

I've started changing members that I know and can trust into "Certified Members". If you think you deserve this classification, let me know. I'm mostly only giving it to people who have proven to me by their actions in the past that they are a friend of this forum. :)

hey new guy here.  might I add some suggestions.  should there be like specific criteria to be listed under certified member, for example post counts or credibility rating.  Theres so many reliable members and future LLers who would want to be a Certified Member but havent gained your trust.  I'm only sayong this because theres one of SysOp and thousands of members.  but I do like the restriction of PMs because of its abuse.

Hi SysOp,
I discovered that PMs don't work for me either. It's the same at OldieButGoldie. Maybe there's a bug in the new settings? Anyway I'd like to reclaim that right, I'm waiting for an important answer from an other patient.

Btw, I have an idea for improvement: in the meanwhile there's so much discussion going on in the forum and there are so many posts per day that it's hard to follow everything. The 'recent posts list' on the home page just shows the last 10 posts. Could you extend this list? Otherwise if you don't check the forum several times a day you might miss new discussions, e.g. without that list I would probably never have discovered the discussion about Osgood-Schlatter, which is important in my eyes.

Thanks
Alchi

Sysop, I think this is a very bad decision. Just today, I recieved a PM from someone asking me what I think about the competing LL forum. I was protecting MMT and explaining how much I think MMT has priceless information and resources from all the years people wrote meterial here, and how much these little controversy about Sarin is such a small and unimportant manner that will probably be forgotten soon.

PM's served me greatly as a prospective LL patient throughout the years, as they gave me an option to get in conversation that included personal information and create great relationships with other patients, leading to actual meetings.

I think that if a usefull functunality of the forum is being shut down because some people use it to advertise other forums or manipulate, then you let them win. Most of the people here believe that this site is a good site with good people, and I think that if we believe in this community then it's better to put a sticky that says that advertising (including other sites) is not allowed in PM's and that everyone should report it so you can ban the once who break the rules. If you believe this site is good, then you shouldn't be afraid of competing websites that can also easily put up a Google Adward campaign and show up on top when people are trying to search for MMT.

I think that it's the members who were willing to contribute information that made this site so good in my eyes. People like Tall and others answered my pm's many times and shutting down PM's to me is shutting them down too...

Just my 2 cents.

Great comment - I totally agree!

Just started PM's with two members and put an effort into writing a great message. I was excited to continue that conversation..
Now I (and a lot of other members) can forget about that, and that's disappointing and such s shame..
-Unless i can be accepted as MMT Patient (current Betz pt, 7,2cm today) and/or Certified Member? --> which I hereby apply for! ;-)

Don't let that stupid guy behind that other stupid website win over all the good members on MMT. This site is so good anyways and have SOO much great content. They don't have a chance to compete with MMT - This whole farce will soon be forgotten I think!

-All the best, Peter

SysOp,

They are clones!!!!! Just ignore them and they will go down on their own!!!

You should think many of your action through, because many of their actions and any successes is purely based on getting a reaction from you or your supporters. I worked for many political campaigns for several years (3 presidential elections, 6 senates and countless state and locals). From experience I will tell you that every controversy will come to pass with time and I believe that you actions is pro-longing it and it’s giving these fools legs.

You should look at them as competition and crush by improving MMT and with time this will their site every must leave them lagging behind. Look they are doing this because you made a judgment by removing the Indian Doctor off the list and they revolted. You know well that most people here do not and will not go to India or to that doctor regardless of their action. But yet your reaction based on their actions is to restrict people here that don’t even listen to them and that action will inevitably force people to go to their half ass incomplete web-site.  If you keep restricting people newbie’s will visit that stupid site and vets will mostly limit their visits here.

Trust me; ignore them and quietly silent them by offering better option and better doctors’ pack (like the guest house you plan on working with Dr. Lee in South Korea. (Also look into Dr Jamal)). These fools will go quiet after repeating the same old shi* over and over. Make this forum free and these fools will lose. THAT’S HOW WE CRUSHED THE SOVIETS AND PUSHED RED COMMUNIST CHINA TO TURN.

IF Y’ALL AGREE GIVE ME A NODE!!!!!!!

You guys have all been upgraded to Certified Members and
Should have access to PMs again. Let me know if you don't.

I think this might be a welcome change to the forum long term. Certified Members will get access to all of the archived diaries that I don't want accessible to just anyone.

Title: Re: New Member Class - "Certified Members"

I only see a problem in this that new guys such as myself as well as many others, are here for the sole purpose of obtaining good information which will further benefit our LL journey.  For that to do so, I feel that PMs are a necessity and all of these trolls that have been spamming have really messed it up for new members.  There are many questions I want to ask LL patients that are "private" but I feel that it cannot happen until I put my "time" in here.

Most of those questions have been answered in the diaries, FAQs or already asked by someone else in a question thread. I've always had a problem with questions being asked via PM because then the answer given doesn't benefit anyone else. Questions should be asked in the questions threads. Maybe this will be more good than I know.

Also, the permissions have now been properly fixed. You should be able to get PMs now.

If it is really important to you and I can verify you aren't one of the spammers I can upgrade you so you can PM. I was thinking of doing this temporarily until the spammers site gets shut down by their hosting company for breaking a number of anti-spam laws / rules but I really think it might be better in the long run.

I'm really not trying to inconvenience anyone. I want to cut off the spammers and I want people to be asking their questions openly on this forum. Maybe I need to do another set of FAQs for questions that have come up more than once on the forum.

I suppose it isnt all that important to me personally although I preferred having the option in case I wanted to exchange skype information or something more personal with someone. It just seems like a step in the wrong direction to me is all. But Im not really sure what you've had to deal with running the forum so Im not trying to blame you or anything. It just feels like Im getting a new phone with less features. Its a little harder to navigate nowadays, although I've never really loved forum format. This is the first forum I've joined so the format just in general is hard for me to navigate. Some topics get lost in time, Some topics are never replied to. I used to like looking at the online now to see what other users were looking at, to look at relevant topics and thats gone. Sysop I hope you find a way to bring the harmonious spirit back to the site despite the criticism and just keep moving forward man . take care

Sysop,

I really do not wanted to  get into this but for some of us old members (member since 2009) it is just tragic that after being on forum for so long one has to prove that he/she is are not a troll to have access to the basic functions of forum.

Just my 2 cents.

Unfortunately, it was someone who had been a member for a while who started all of this. It's just growing pains, and I hope you guys stick with us through them.

I also feel very strongly that the people who should have the privelage of being able to PM are the ones who have been around long enough and know enough about LL that they won't need to be using the PM system to ask questions.

Title: Re: New Member Class - "Certified Members"
Post by: Infinity88 on September 29, 2013, 02:18:08 AM
I agree PM should be a function to communicate 1-2-1 on a specific situation or to discuss some personal stuff. All matters related to LL are better of being discussed in an open forum.

Although it is a LL forum but once you have been on forum long enough than it becomes a community and people tend to communicate with each other on stuff not always related to LL. Hence why i was suggesting that members who have been here for long time should be shown some respect unless there is a strong enough reason to treat them otherwise. But as i suggested earlier i really don not want to debate this but applying sweeping restrictions  is never a good idea. Having said that i am not aware of how much difficulties you have faced in dealing with recent issues but i still urge you to reconsider latest changes.

hey sysop,

Although i'm just a n00b to this site, I think that taking away the original PM functionality for most of the users of the forum would do more harm than good to the site in the long run.   It's kinda the same logic as implementing DRM for software:

1.  DRM ruins the experience for 99. 99% people who are legitimately users
2.  While making it slightly harder for the 0. 01% people who are pirates.

For the sake of the site, a better solution is needed.  my 2 cents.

I understand how the PM feature is needed for some, I do however agree with SysOp that we want to see the info/questions/solutions posted on the forums. It's a catch 22 which unfortunately spammers took advantage of. Like "duck ass", it'll get sorted in time.   :)

Now, if someone can help to have a custom profile picture of Superman.......instead of the current lousy pic  :-\

I have received many PM's that were spamming about this and that but it was very easy to just ignore it all.

May I make a suggestion though. The Credibility system should be looked at a bit. I have been a member for a long time and have amassed a decent amount of knowledge on the subject ( reading all the diaries on this site, PM'ing with vets, phone conversations with LL vets including some of Paleys' patients, etc.) During my time here, I have received karma nods for helping people out and answering questions but the troubling part is having karma removed for unrelated reasons. Credibility should reflect knowledge, experience and willingness to help others. Having credibility removed just because you disagree with someone is very inaccurate, it does not reflect true " credibility".

I owe so much to this site and so do many others.

Personally like I said on the other thread I don't mind answering question privately. as long as you answer questions from your own experience and they benefit from it. I don't agree with the pm rights being removed and yes it is easy for me to ignore spam or recognise it. it is no problem to me as I am not getting it through my emails :). I Love this site and ive started the PART 2 COMMENCE thread in general news and I hope to make it a diary eventually with your help sysop. after my experience I plan on making a summary vid and my rehab and since its a massive thing as soon as im playing sports again and running I want to show you all! so If expect loads of pms and I look forward to answering them. If I can with your help sysop.

The VPN I use is Private Internet Access. I'm using it now as I'm filling up my extrenal hard drive for my long journey. All that is left is to choose Dr. Sringari or Betz. I don't actually care for contacting others on this forum, I just want to ask Apo a few questions before I choose my doctor because he has seen Betz twice.

Dameon, I don't know if you meant me, but I have been using Private Internet Access ever since I found out Verizon was monitoring my internet activity. I sometimes forget to connect, so my IP will either be one of PIA's or Verizon's

I already emailed SysOp, but I might as well ask here: may I be certified as well? There are some people I need to contact before I start my journey next month.

Also, to the couple of people who PM'ed me (if you happen to read this): sorry I never got to respond before the "fence" went up. Hopefully, I will get certified and reply then....albeit very very late.

Out of curiousity, why are my posts being ignored here? I've supported many posters on this board by offering words of encouragement and posted some solid insights and opinions. Yet, once I ask to be a certified member, I merely get ignored. Not cool and if that's the sort of way things are handled here, then it makes quite sad. Thought this was a place that encouraged a community like atmosphere and was welcoming. I lost all my PMs, which had useful words for me.

If the administrators want to continue making this site the destination for LL, then ignoring it's posters is a big no-no. Especially posters who've been here a while and contributed as much as I have.

Thanks and have a great day!

Hello admins! I would like to be a certified member as well.  I used to be very active here but only corresponded to a few people.  I think the only ones who knew how I looked like are Dryani, Apotheosis and 6ftby2014.  I was thinking of going to India before because it was affordable but now I am thinking I should save enough money to go to Dr.  Mahboubian.  Thank you and have a great day everyone!

Hi Sysop,

I don't mind being a regular member because I don't use PMs a lot, but I'd like to be able to see all the posts that a specific member has written. If I have to become a certified member to do that, could you please tell me what I should do ?

I access this site from my home computer, with my cell phone and from my job. I don't think I share IPs with any other member, but I don't understand much about that stuff, so please let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks
NoSpoon

If you no longer see it, the odds are that they aren't updating it either. Those diaries were moved to an archive. Which diary are you looking for?

Hello. I've been active on the forum quite a bit lately and am very seriously considering LL. The main concern I have is that I'd like to fully recover afterwards, to the point that I can run at least 5 kilometers without pain and at a decent speed. Currently, my plan is to do 5CM in each segment, in order to maximize chances of recovering athletic ability, I am willing to work very hard and dedicate a lot of time and energy to make this happen following my LL. I've already trained for a marathon, so dedication to physical training isn't that new to me. I want to learn more about how various LL patients and doctors have approached recovery and rehabilitation, and about the personal/emotional side of how various patients have reacted to and coped with being temporarily disabled, as well as how they were able to persevere and recover. I've read almost every diary on MMT that is currently available to me, and would really like to have access to any more archived diaries that are on the site. I was wondering if you could make me a certified member so that I can access these diaries. I am not particularly interested in using the PM system, but getting access to more diaries would really be a big help to me. Please let me know if you can "certify" me. Thank you so much!

No. You have to 10 posts on the site that aren't spam. You could also just post your topic here and I'll move it to the necessary area.

Subject: How to manage daily life and LL at the same time?

Ok so here is the question.  I have read alot about limb lengthening and i m very much eager to do this any time soon rather then late.  I can spare 30k to 35k for this procedure right now.  But my problem is how t o manage my life while i m going through LL.  I have an excellent job(They are not gonna let me take off for more then 1 month if that), wife (Who doesn't work) and kid(who goes to school), mortgage to pay, car payments etc.  Obviously these things wouldn't stop and bills would be comming in.  I don't want to make life miserable for my family just because i want to be a few inch taller.  But on the hand, my short stature is always bothering me. I am in the late 30s and i m afraid if i have to wait before all the things settle in my life (or family) , it will be too late.
My question is for all those veterans who were in my shoes and they pulled it off without impacting too much their life/family life.  Any suggestions?

Hey everyone,

Been researching these procedures, doctors, etc.  for a while now and thought I'd join the board and post.  I'm about 5'5 right on the dot maybe a hair shy idk, but I'm looking to get to 5'8-5'9 maybe? The internal tibias seem great, except for the return on overall height.  I'm an athlete believe it or not lol so losing too much ability is a no no.  The diaries have been a great read (the ones I've gotten to) and I look forward to reading more and getting closer to what I feel I need to do! The cost may be high but it's doable and probably worth it in the long run.

I am not sure. That's never happened to me. Maybe your posts were not deemed to contribute enough to their respective threads.

Just answer in a few threads that ask questions or request short personal stories or anecdotes and you'll have ten posts in no time.

Well I've found out that with the NHS they will basically act on the amount that you complain. So its not always down to whether they think its feasible in terms of the treatment, more so about the actual impact it is having on your life.

In regards to leg lengthening and childhood cancer, i've brought up the incidents of breast cancer in women. The number of women that have suffered from breast cancer has become so high that through their lobbying they have been able to convince the NHS that they should be entitled to breast reconstruction.

In my case, the treatment has not just effected my height there are many other areas too that have been effected by the treatment. So my argument is that I can thoroughly understand there are somethings that have been effected by treatment and cannot easily be reversed, but leg lengthening is a fairly easy solution that would improve my quality of life tenfold.

I don't wish to go into too many details here, but just want to say that before I had cancer people treated me very differently to after I had it, and now as Im older the long term effects have left their mark. My small size seems to be the main reason why I get picked on regularly in social situations such as a simple night out in a bar. The whole aspect of addressing the long term effects of the treatment is something new, so I am currently fighting not just for me but all patients that have to suffer the illness.

I want to stop the pain that other people suffer from the change in the way people treat them, and improve the treatment system for the better. Its sad enough to have your childhood taken away, but when that contiunes into your teenage years, and your adult years, then something has to be done.

Leukaemia is cancer of the blood. Back in the 1980s, they had no proper understanding of how to treat it so gave cranial radiation in certain trials. The effect of the cranial radiation along with the other forms has a massive impact on how the body grows hence why the case of leg lengthening surgery seems very feasible as I have already undergone years of growth hormone replacement that failed to make barely an impact on my growth. The next few months should shed some light on the matter.

ahh very true. I forgot about the deadly treatment as an angle. I was thinking purely from the pathology of the actual disease.

ps. cancer is a nutritional deficiency disease. it has a cure.
