Well, I'm about to book my plane tickets for the last week of May.  I'm having thoughts enter my head.

Last minute doubts are normal, Catch - I had them right up to the day before my operation! Smiley

Well, I'm about to book my plane tickets for the last week of May.  I'm having thoughts enter my head.  I think about a few things:

1) Holy smokes this seems too selfish.  Can I not use this much money in a better way?  Help others, move, start a career, etc.

2) I have a good personality, and I'm dead confident with girls in my general height range (once dated a 5' 10" girl) but I walked secretly on my tiptoes inside my big shoes.

but, then I think of functional things that could be easier, i.e. reaching items  and uhhhhhhhhh that's all I have for now.

I'm guessing that a big push for me is that not one of my friends is under 5' 10".

What are you at right now ??

I think each LL operation is enough to bring you up one spot in the hierarchy. And sadly yes, there is a hierarchy. I know it from wearing concealed elevator shoes with 3" heels.

5'4 to 5'7, people look at you entirely differently.
5'7 to 5'10, people look at you entirely differently.
5'10 to 6'1, starting to see a pattern here?
6'1 to 6'4 you're now tall even among tall people. I think it's time to stop. You're not going to get into the NBA.

So a couple days ago I booked plane tickets ($2300!!!) and now I'm waiting for my Visa which should be here by the middle of next week.  I suppose I'll ring Ronnie and tell her to roll out the red carpet.

Jack, I could only get tickets for the 20th.  Everybody wants to go to China in May for some reason.

Why the hell so much ??
Try NWA.com
or try flying out during midweek instead of Sun/Fri/Sat.
I used my brothers points to get the round tickets but it was like $14xx.00 for the tickets if I didn't use the pts.

Nothing, I checked again just now and the cheapest is still over $2k.  There were 2 seats available on the plane I booked.  I'll be flying out on sunday the 20th.

On another note, I finally recieved my new laptop for the trip today.
I got a Toshiba A130 15.4" screen with a Geforce Go 7600 graphic card for all the gaming goodness.
Got this for just a tad over $1K.
Had a previous Dell 600m for 4 years and I will give it to my sister.

At first I wanted to get a Dell 9400/1705 cause I can get a 7900gs graphic card with it but its a monster of a laptop.
Even though I won't be carrying it around much, its still is a huge laptop.

The Toshiba I got is nice but I'm disappointed.
- The highest resolution I can get for the screen was 1280x800 and while thats fine for most people, I'm not used to having much little room.
I'm been running 1920x1200 and 1920x1080 for years now. Even my old laptop is 1400x900 resolution.
I much rather have smaller fonts and more room than vice versa.
- There is an annoying RED dead pixel on the bottom of the screen.
I have bought many LCDs in my life time from TVs to monitors and I have never ever had a dead pixel until now
- The touch pad is kind of crappy, Its small and its jumping around on me too much.

I'm not satisfy at all.
Since this is a customized laptop, it will cost me 15% restocking fee to return it.
I will email them and see what they have to say.
I kinda wish I had order the Dell 9400 now since I can get the Go 7900gs with it and a bigger scren resolutions.

I procrastinated enough to do my taxes 1 day before it was due.
I still wonder why I waited so long especially when I'm getting back $2300+ this year.

On another subject, I'm disappointed in my new laptop.
That stuck RED pixel is bothering the cra* out of me.
And Vista is buggy as hell....or its the drivers that aren't fully compatible with Vista.
I think I will eat the 15% re-stocking fee and return it.

I responded to someone on Craigslist who has a sealed HP nx9420 for $700.
This laptop still sells for $1600+ right now.
I'll see how it goes tommorow.

I met up with the guy today and bought the HP nx9420 for $700.
http://orlando.craigslist.org/ele/311129238.html
This laptop sells for $1699+ tax still.
The thing was brand new sealed in a box.
What a deal ! Guess I will return the Toshiba.

Nothing been happenning.
Just working and counting down the days before I go.
Been working so much that I've been sick last 3 days and had to call in sick.
Hate callin in cause every working day means $200-$300 for me.

I also got the first month off from work on a personal leave.
I figured after the month is up, I'll tell tell that I've been in an accident and broke my legs and I will be out indefinately.
It should work as I can take as much time as I want for medical reason.
If I get fired, I belong in the union and I should have no problem getting my job back.
And if I don't, I still have other things to fall back on.
I forsee myself not being able to work for 1 year as everything I know how to do well relies on lots of walking.

Also, another small hurdle has been cleared as my buddy has returned the money I loan to him.
I had gotten a whole bunch of credit cards a year ago with 0% interest and took out money from them.
I lended him $90K at 5%.
Don't want to get into all the details but its easy work for $4K+.
If I wasn't doing this LL surgery, I would pay all the CC back and wait till my credit scores go up again and do the whole thing over again.

Things are really quiet in Beijing.
Can't wait till I get there and see whats going on.

have you book your air ticket yet Jack? Seems like you work REALLY hard... that could count against you in the first few days after the 1st op because of your tiredness. Remember to balance work and rest because there is a major operation waiting for you.
Apart from that, I myself looking forward seeing all of you in August 1st  Cheesy

Good luck Jack,

it's gonna be incredible when you are at any house with friends or a girl and it's time to put your shoes off and no anxious or embarrassing overtakes you. I felt very identified with that part of your story

Try to do a useful diary thinking of us reading it. And good luck (again)
