MMT, if we pay you by paypal, our names are shown where the payment is received, so we do lose the anonymity.

I know your names and a lot of information about you already, so anonymity is not really an issue Smiley

Hey  MMT in my view i rate for 50-50 as we are seeing this same feature & page since 2yrs so why
cant you make it chargeble only for LL patients so that this site can be improved even better in accessing.

TO ALL MMT PEOPLE - MMT would have kept quiet after his LL & enjoyed his life but he himself wanted
this site to be open for everyone short people like us so that it will be helpfull to all of us he spend his
time, money in creating this he is the founder ,so all the credit goes to him . so i rate it as 50-50 if it is
chargable it can be improved if its free it will be help full for all the people in the world who can access
                   & collect informations..

Just wanted to comment about how cool it is seeing new names make their first posts.

MMT, how many members are there on this site?

For the record, I voted that we should charge people.  But I would like to amend this to charging journalists, researchers only.

Yes, one of the reasons that I started this particular thread was to see how many of the lurkers really value this forum, and it seems that many do.

We have just over 2000 active members, although the vast majority of them don't post and just sit there avidly reading the forum.

Some of them spend as much as four hours a day reading and never post!

I really do not believe that making this sire chargeable is a good idea, you have to consider that there are people from all countrie sin the world that come to the site to get closer to LL and have an idea that this kind of operations is available and feasible in real life, people are still having issues believeing being taller after a surgery is possible. this sire OFFERS knowledge and gives and idea to people EVEN if they can not afford LL, I am having big reservations that if any section on this site would ghet restricted that would make site loses credibility, there are some people that right now cant do LL due to finances or daily life such as work, family etc but they still come here to always stay tunned no matter how long its gona take them to do it, them paying while they do not come here everyday would not be fair. I personally and frankly would try to look for something else. I can understand the fact that MMT now would like some kind of compensation for what he is doing  but with this international economy crise and purshasing power is getting lower and lower and all the worldwide event i would ask or even beg to leave this site open to the WORLD, why cant you try to work on having it with more than just one language and make it even a better place to people that arent fluent in English, as i said even if you cant do LL at least you can come here and get free informations and tips and knowledge and get to know that a person nowadays can be taller. this remains my point of view that gets added to other's and anyone is free to support any idea he thinks its the best, I AM WITH KEEPING THIS SITE FREE!!!!

Me.

Although it wouldn't have an effect on me as I'm a veteran but I'm 100% in support of the site being FREE.
It really depends on how big MMT want this site to be.
If you start charging people, you will see a stagnant in memberships.
The type of forums I see that are successful in charging people are:
Free to everyone but require a fee if you want to access certain content or be able to post certain things.
Example 1, a car forum that I'm in is totally free but if you want to start selling stuff, you need to upgrade your membership.
Makes total sense. The site still enjoys healthy memberships and those who want to sell their craps need to upgrade their membership.
Example 2, another forum that is also totally free if if you want to be able to download certain stuff(music, movies, ringtones), you need to upgrade membership.
This forum doesnt fall into either example so I dont see why people would want to upgrade their membership.
I mean, do people really want to pay money to be able to read diaries ?? My guess would be NO.

I did say that the money would go to charity - the extra few thousand dollars a month that would be generated by this site wouldn't have any noticeable impact on me or my finances Smiley

I think the forum is "private" enough. Only people interested in LL look about it. Registering in the website (for free of course) is more than enough to access specific areas.

And MMT, as you stated in this forum many times, you are rich (+20 millions). Why bother putting loads of ads for pocket change or even ask for donations? Maintaining a forum/website is not expensive.

Another thing I noticed just now is your credibility MMT. You started with 1100 and now you are 999, so you should be -101. I don't know why your credibility is so low, but I advise you to change your approach.

Dude, do you ever read things properly? It says very clearly in the post:

The bulk of the money would go to charity to help people like Nastya, and some would fund the continued expansion of the features of the board.

You'd have a lot more credibility yourself if you read things properly Wink

People who want to help people like Nastya should donate DIRECTLY to her parents account or the clinic's. Not because people might think you are a "money-grabber scumbag", but because It's more TRANSPARENT.

Mostly of the donated money for the tsunami victims where stolen. If 1% of the people think you MIGHT keep something for your own benefit, you shouldn't be the middleman.

About the expansion or features of the board, is like I said, why bother with pocket change?

I agree with Tall in that charging could make some feel the site is some type of scam, but if you gave the user a free trial period of maybe one or two weeks they could then decide if the site is valuable enough to them

Agreed. It would feel like a scam, like those growing taller exercise books that people sell online. And I would no longer access this site. I would then contact doctors directly and use short person support since all their information is provided free of charge. Some doctor's, like the U.S. ones, have great LL studies on their websites for free. I use this site mainly for moral support though the lengthening diaries are very helpful. But no matter what advice is offered on the MMT website, I would STILL double check and verify it with a doctor, so that is why this site is more useful for moral support.

I actually think this site serves the DOCTORS most. First, it limits the amount of traffic that doctors receive via e-mail because this site answers most of the basic LL questions. Second, it gives the doctors free publicity.

If anyone has to pay, it should be the doctors - to have their FAQ and websites, etc. posted on this forum.

Finally, how are you going to verify if someone actually had LL so that they can have free access to the website? Do they have to show you their x-rays or a "doctor's note" in order to prove their status? It might be going too far.

How is that you know our names and A LOT OF INFORMATION? That really creeps me out...Is it because when we first sign onto the website we have to provide e-mail addresses and the like?

On another note so that I don't sound too negative, I like this forum, think it's well run, for which MMT deserves the credit. I don't know how much money or time it takes to successfully run a forum like this but if no one's strapped for cash to keep it up and running, I'd say keep it free. Though I'm thankful MMT cleans up this site pretty well and regularly looks for scammers, I think that the legitimate users of this site double or triple check all the information on this site anyway to ensure that certain information posted on this site is accurate.

As an IT specialist, I can tell you that it's impossible unless he or someone else who has your IP address has contacted your internet service provider and asked them to reveal which customer has used that IP address at the time you posted on the forum, and without a court order, your ISP won't disclose that information. The only thing someone can do with your IP is trace its origin to whichever city your ISP is based and get an idea of where in the world you are, but they definitely won't be able to get your name and address from that. If you used your real name in the email you've provided, then it is possible that MMT or any other admin on any other forum can know your real name.

Not that I don't trust MMT with that information since I'm sure he wouldn't do anything knowing our real names, but once you pay using PayPal they will be able to see your name since it's associated with that account. That might cause a little paranoia with people who don't know this site and would like to keep their anonymity especially with such a sensitive subject such as LL.

I've learned a lot from this board about LL that would have probably taken doctors weeks to explain to me in email (time that they don't have) so I wouldn't want future LL info seekers to be deprived from that if this switched to a pay site and they didn't feel comfortable with paying to see the forum.

I don't think MMT gives 2 sh1t about his credibility rating.
If he really want to, he can just make his credibilty rating go up to 10,000.
Us veterans couldn't care less about our credibilty rating.
I've been on this forum long enough and gone through the procedure so if a newbie don't want to listen to what I have to say, thats his/her loss.
I tell people how it is, no need to sugarcoat anything.
