Hi everybody
Greetings from Russia!
Now I'm in Ilizarov center and It's been 8 days since my surgery. I have a blog in Farsi that is my native language and I'm writing the first LL diary for Persian people there. so I'm not going to write a diary here, but you can ask me your questions if have one. and please don't ask me for pics because I forgot to bring my Romreader and now I can not transfer my pics from my cellphone to my notebook.
My surgeons were Dr.Novikov and Dr. Osmanovich. I don't know if I wrote their names correctly.  Cry
they did the surgeries on both of my tibias and as you know the method here is external only and my goal is 6cm.

Mr. Afzayesh,

Congratulations on beginning your LL journey! I hope to follow in your footsteps in July/Aug 2012 so thank you for answering questions.

(1) You mentioned in a previous post that you had been staying in a hostel for a few days prior to your LL surgery for $15/day. Can you elaborate some more on that?

(2) I'm assuming you are staying in the Ilizarov center for your lengthening period. Will you be staying in the Ilizarov for consolidation as well or will you be returning home?

(3) How much did the Ilizarov surgery cost/ what did the bill include?

Thank you again for answering questions- we all appreciate another voice from Kurgan Smiley

Good luck!

Grats Mr. Afzayesh!

I also want to do my LL surgery at Ilizarov center. How is the staff attitude towards you? How is the food there? (Moshe said it was horrible haha) And finally, are Russian girls really that beautiful?  Tongue

Good to see that you've decided to share somewhat of your experience.

Currently there are 5 other LL that have come at least in part due to my diary and you're the first that has decided to share your experience.

Has it really been 8 days arealdy? Time fly's, it really seems like 2 or 3 days!

yes. I stayed there about 9 days and last night before surgery I slept at the hospital. this hostel is very close to the hospital and actually right now I can see it from my window. they take everybody there when they arrive here.

I really wanna comeback home ASAP but when you are in lengthening phase nobody knows what is going to happen next. hopefully I will comeback after 90-100 days. and I'm sure it's going to be a big challenge because of weather and wheelchair and the language and etc.

they didn't give me any bill or something like that yet. I don't know why but it seems that this is not unlikely here .
but Valentina told me the costs of the surgery is 3700USD for each leg. plus 50USD for accomodation. and there was some costs for the tests that I think were not more than 400USD.
cheers

Hi Apatik
it's OK. sometimes I have to ring and wait for 15-30 minutes for them to show up, but I think it's natural, I'm in a hospital and in common ward. I'm in a room with 2 kids and their mothers help me a lot, so I had not any problem till now.
the food do not taste good. breakfast is good. but lunch and dinner NOT! Smiley
it has no taste. they don't use salt or spices in the foods. and you see the same food over and over again.
when I was in airport in Moscow I saw so many gorgeous women, in Kurgan not so many. but I think in general russian girls are beautiful and tall! Wink

Hey buddy
thanks, your diary was a big help for me. I'm waiting for you to get out of here and then I can change my room and take your bed. come on! get better soon! I don't have so much time! time is flying for me Wink
I hope it flies faster man  Grin

Hey Mr. Afzayesh,

How do you feel the few days immediately post op?  Usually people say this is the worst phases of LL despite how short it is.  Do you feel that way?

How long was your operation?  Did you feel anything during the op?

Hi chlor
the first two or three days were not so bad, because I had a lot of Tramadol in my blood so I could barely feel anything. but after that they made you to stand up. and after that you have to go to WC and these are the big challenges in the first week post OP. In the 4th day I think, I had a very intense pain in my balls but after I went for my first dump, it was OK.
I was not awake the whole time during my operation, and I can't remember how many hours it was. you can feel that they are doing something to your legs but you don't feel pain.

OK. I think the diary of Moshe doesnít tell you everything about this place. Iím in international department like Moshe and actually now his bed is mine. I came to this hospital at 24/10 (thatís my birthday) and had the operation at 25/10.
I know 2 other people who came here about 5 months ago and they are still in lengthening phase.
my right leg is maybe 2cm longer and my left is almost zero! I was walking very good after operation and my body respond to this change very good. but after 15 days I had an unnatural pain in my left leg. Almost in the day 22, my doctor said we found why you have pain and left.
So almost in the 22th day my doctor said we find the problem but he didnít tell me what it is. And since that day they turned the screws ďinverseĒ and gave me a tramadol every night to not feel the pain. After 2-3 days I understand that my left leg is going to be compressed completely and Iím going to loose all that I have gained. I asked for a translator and she came and told me that my fibula regenerated in the very beginning, so they have to break it again.
I donít know why they didnít understand this issue in the first X-Ray?
My first X-Ray was 10 days after surgery and my second 20days after that. If my fibula was not broken it should be obvious in the first one. Anyway my doctor said this problem happened because my body is too strong! I told him frankly that I donít think this is the source of the problem.
I was a professional smoker for 8 years. I never was fat but my body is not athletic and I have lived in Tehran for the last decade of my life. (the weather is very polluted in there)
Now you can do the math yourself.
so Iíve been here for 40 days and my doctor did another surgery one week ago to break my fibula and change some pins.

Wow that sucks  Undecided losing 2 cm of turnings. But if the fibula fused at the beginning, how did you able to lengthen the tibia ?

Hi Afazyesh,

I am sorry for your loss  of length & time everything.

I also cant understand this point that fibula is joined and bone get distracted for 2 cm. Shocked

Also if fibula was joined after 2 cm of distraction- there was no need of retraction. They could have broke the fibula in 30 mins of small operation.

How was your callus @ 2cm Huh?

I feel problem was something else.

anyway ! be strong. things will be fine.

God bless

Hi Luffy
sorry for the late answer my internet connection was dead.
I didn't lost 2 cm because at that time they lengthened my fibula a little more than 1 cm, I think. but now the difference should be more than 2cm.
I don't know how they did it. and my doctor didn't explain to me. and they keep the X-rays so I even don't know how much I lengthened. the shape of my left leg and foot changed and now my left foot is sidelong and my left knee bend a little towards inside, I think these are because of turning when my fibula was fused.

Hi buddy
I also can't understand anything here. they give you no explanation here. I don't know how was or is my callus because I didn't see any of my X-rays. Thank you for kind words. I walk everyday and almost feel good.
