I'm trying to learn where to start.  i already put some cash in my brokerage account but I don't know where to start and what to invest in.

It's cool to see we both have the same goal.  If I can come up with $30000 id do LL.

I actually got a lot of inquiries about FaceBook recently. I make it a habit to never buy into mass hysteria.... it is too hard to actually valuate something in that atmosphere. It is a solid plan to buy into something like that with a very short time horizon and take a quick hit. Most people who make huge amounts of money buying IPO's, buy the ones that are less known and they buy before anyone else ( If you think insider trading does not happen, you are sadly misinformed). By the time something like that goes public, it is usually too late.

Little update on an ROV trade in RTGV that I posted a while ago (4-26). It took a loooong time in my time frame but it eventually came around. It meandered and was kinda mired in a losing position until it rallied today. I covered at.30 for a 50% gain. Not bad but I had to hold for a month through some losing periods which kinda take a toll on you mentally ( you end up second guessing yourself a lot).

I've got very similar goals as your 6ft-by-2014 basically. If I can come by around 70k-80K by then I would think that's all I need. Ready to pump in about $1000-1500.

Condor, I have had great results since I started this thread. I don not know if anyone is following it though so I have stopped posting for a bit. It takes some work to do this but I don't mind. I do this for a living but I have never posted pics like this before, I just pull the trigger without anyone knowing what I am doing. I can start up again if there is interest. It can be very challenging since I am basically putting my pics out there publicly and my reputation as well, ha ha.

I have also been thinking about starting a separate account for my LL and trading it publicly on here so people can see my results and see if I can turn 5k into enough to do surgery. It would be a great challenge and if I can pull it off, I think I can help others reach their goals as well.

I recently realized that a few of my volatility trade have really taken off after I got out. I have altered my plan a little to tighten the risk factor on these trades and let them go for a little longer on the profit side. Emotionally this is not easy to do since your first reaction is to take profits when they are on the table. I have no gamble in me at all so I don't enjoy letting things run for the chance of large profits ( that's why I mainly scalp for 5% at a time). This has been serving me well and the profits are increasing. GWBU has netted me over 100% on one trade recently. If you an buy at prices that make sense to risk $1 in order to hold for $2 ( 2:1 reward to risk ratio) then you really only have to be right half the time.... this takes a lot of pressure off of you and allows for much clearer thinking.

My main income is still index futures ( which can not be posted here, they move too fast) but these stocks are an excellent way to grow your account.

I have been traveling a lot lately and won't be home for another month or so. As soon as I can, I will get going with this thread again..... I wasn't sure if anyone was following it or not so I haven't bothered.

It's funny that someone on here asked me about Facebook stock when it went IPO and I suggested against buying it. Even wealthy, experienced investors make mistakes, Mark Cuban ( owner of the Dallas Mavericks basketball team) bought a bunch and lost a lot of money..... maybe he should log on to MMT...... hahahaha

I think that once you achieve a certain amount of success, you become a little careless. No one that I know would ever buy a pre hyped IPO.

It's a lot better idea to put your money in a index fund.  First of all, facebook is sellling at 50-100 times it's earnings.  It's a great business indeed, one billion dollar profits with a few servers but it does not mean it's worth 100bil.  They don't know what to do with their IPO cash, probably they will sink it into a black hole ie.  other overvalued tech stocks.  So you have to assume facebook will be the most popular and profitable social network for the next 100 years, or it will grow 100-fold.  Ask yourself if it's possible, do you guys even remember myspace? There is too much hype, you must look for some really undervalued stocks, and there are plenty now.  I'm buying shares at 1/3 of the company's liquidation value right now, these are perfectly good businesses with high profit margins, but somehow seen as worthless by the herd.

Many companies can be bought for short term plays. It's just a matter of buying at the proper price and making sure that your target is easily within the range of value for that particular company. Using earnings as a barometer for buying companies is more of a long term strategy as the stock price will travel above and below its' proper value for much of the time. In the long term, the stock price will often level out to it's more proper price but in the short term, it can oscillate at any level.

Short term transactions ( which is all I prefer to do) play by an entirely different set of rules than longer term holds do, so never try to buy one strategy looking at the rules of another..... it won't work that way.
