Hey guys !

Sooo I'm taking the plunge.  Been thinking about this for a few years now, it's taken a while to raise the necessary finances and I can't quite believe the journey's about to begin.  Guess it won't really sink in till I wake up in a week and a half with my bones in two pieces.

It's been incredibly enlightening to read some of the diaries on here, hopefully I can provide something informative and (maybe) entertaining.  Prepare for this to descend into one long rant as the pain sets in haha.

About me:  I'm 22, just finished uni.  Current height is 162cm and hoping to gain 8-10cm.

Had my consultation with Prof Betz back last September, he's really pushing the new Saarschleife clinic for his patients these days.  Took a look at the time and it does look pretty cool but a couple of key downsides - the internet is dire (crazy given that it's this brand new, modern resort but then it's really poor for several of the hotels in the area, doesn't seem to be that big a requirement in rural Germany!) and the physios lack expertise in treating leg lengtheners. . .

So I'm staying in the Park Hotel.  I've heard great things about Peter Woll and I think it's key to have a physio who really knows what he's doing.

Also you are doing Betzbone? Is betzbone Albizzia or is it an Albizzia which betz has improved himself?
Also can you tell me how much you paid for the stay or how much you have saved for the stay.  Obviously Betz cost 48. 5k EUR for the surgery itself but he never mentioned the cost of stay.

I'm doing the Betzbone. I might be wrong but I believe Prof Betz uses this for all his patients now unless there's very good reason not to.

It's the latest version of the Albizzia which Betz has refined himself over many years. When you have your consultation with Prof Betz he will talk you through all the different methods from the external right through to the latest versions of the Albizzia, how the technology has developed and why it has developed (less risks of skin inflammation, less blood loss, less scarring etc).

Ok, well the Betz quote includes hospital stay for 14 days. After that the Park Hotel is 69 euros a day (includes breakfast, rapid internet and free access to the adjacent Vitalis centre which has pool, sauna etc). I'm intending to say for the duration of the lengthening period.

I was considering staying at Elke's house but there's a few disadvantages...apparently the internet isn't great (which is a biggie for me as I need this in order to do some work for the next 4 months), you have to walk a little way to get to things like pool/sauna, elke drives you to physio twice a week free of charge but you have to pay extra if you want her to drive you to more sessions.

I'll give you an update as soon as poss after the 21st but bear in mind that there's no internet in the hospital rooms...it'll probs take me a few days before I'm capable of getting down to the lobby

Hey DC. I am assuming that you are doing femurs, correct? So what size Betzbone are you getting 11mm or 13mm? What made you want to  go with Dr. Betz? Has Dr. Betz told you what the improvements the Betzbone carries over the former Albizzia that he has been using?

Just a little update concerning Elke's House.  The Speed of the internet is very fast(New HighSpeed since 2012) and Elke is driving you to every physio or X-Ray-Date for free.  The food was very good and a nice atmosphere and Elke takes care of you regardless your problems.  In Elkes's House you enjoy company and you have a family during your time in Saarland.  If you wanna see more of the Saarland, Elke is right person to ask for, you dont need to pay for this.

Prices differ depending on the length of stay(70€ per day and if you are staying longer than 10 days it is 60€ with everything) That means 4xTimes Food with Fruits and non-alcoolic Drinks included

Hey guys !  Thanks for all the messages and support so far   Apologies for not posting this sooner, meant to update you all last night but the morphine sent me out like a solid right hook haha.

To answer some earlier qs: Yep, I have the 11mm nail. I guess I'd have liked the bigger one but God certainly didn't bless me with large marrow holes (more on this later) !  I quizzed Prof Betz and he doesn't think it'll make a difference so fingers crossed.

I'm hoping to gain 10cm (surprise, surprise) but I'm aware that it's a tough ask so I'll be happy with 8.5-9cm I guess...we'll see. I'm willing to compromise on recovery time and maybe slight loss on physical function compared to what I originally had but it's a long way away so I'll see what condition I'm in when I get nearer and make a decision then
