Hey LJ,

You opened a diary! Good for you! I am sure it will help a lot of patients who are considering femur lengthening with the Precice System. How are you feeling today?

God Bless,

Tall

Nice, glad to see that you started a diary. I'm also planning my second surgery with Dr. M and will be interested to see how things go for you. Good luck.

Hi,
its sat around 10:10 pm
i'll try to keep a decent diary
i am old but healthy and prefer to reach around 5 7
i do have an arthritic knee that worries me

I did about 2 inches ext on my tibs bilaterally 2 years ago with dr. R and Dr. M was his assistant at the time
i healed well

on thur morn (2 days ago)dr. M broke my r femur= cut through some tendons and inserted a precice LL rod\
and 4 screws
he let me go home the next day

so today my leg is swollen and sore but no pain when I don't move it
walking with crutches around the house is ok
when i sit on my bed and try to lift the leg onto the bed i get sharp pain so i use a strap to raise the leg.
i am taking percocet 1x/day before trying my sta bike which hurt like hell

i will see dr. m on tues and then try to go to work-mostly paperwork
if he gives me dig xray pics on cd i will upload and post

i am a male between 50 and 70
i dont want certain entities to know about my LL
so I will keep a bit of anonymity at times

my incision by my lower lat thigh(screws) is about an inch-mid lat thigh(osteoplasty site)
also about an inch--
upper hip area will be large incisions judging by the bandaging

HI LJ,

Congrats on getting the surgery and thanks for starting the diary.

Hey.. best of luck with everything!

If it is not confidential, can you share the financials? Price breakdown of the operation...what's included and what's not? Are the prices set or can you negotiate? How much does it cost total etc etc.

I have a sibling out in that area and I am considering Dr. M in a couple years.

Thanks,

day 4
leg still sore and swollen
I c dr. M tommorrow (tues)
i'll let you what he says about my progress

I won't discuss finances--your on your own-but each precice nail costs more then some cars
hospitals have their costs-so if your doing ok get out as soon as you can-
all the LL doctors personal fees differ-you need to talk with them
the staff(nurses) at st. joseph were very nice -i actually convinced one to give me a 6 hour sleep break
without taking my bp or poking me
but i couldn't sleep well(i'm not a good sleeper)

I'm mostly sitting around in bed--icing the leg-and get up and walk a bit with crutches when my butt
gets sore-also do heel slides to about 90 deg.
thats it folks

i did try and drive my car up and down my block-scared my wife a bit
but it didn't hurt-i'll let her drive me to the doc tommorrow

I mostly want to inform you of how i'm feeling/doing and what the journey will be like with Dr. M

Are you putting any pressure at all on your operated leg? or just on the good leg?

I gave you a karma nod for starting a diary and providing everyone with the great info. Thanks. Cool

Hi LJ,

Thanks for starting a diary.  Looking forward to reading it.

And by the way, not sure if I'm reading the above right.  Are you lengthening 5-7 cm or is your goal to reach 5 foot 7 inches?

Thanks Smiley

I want to be about 5' 7"
another 1/2 inch wont matter but will be harder on my soft tissues/bad knee/bone consolidation
i'm not going to be tall in this life but 5'8 with shoes on brings tears of joy to my eyes

saw dr. m this morning-no xray taken today

will start LL on fri--.75 mm /day

he took out stitches and that surprised me-seems so soon-5 days after surgery

after i got home-2 hours(usually 45 min) as my wife had to buy groceries and subway sandwhich, etc.
i took about 7.5 mg percocet and waited an hour and did my sta bike
was able to go all the way around about 10 painful times and got some swelling and  touch of bleeding from the lower screw area.
i'm back in bed now icing the leg
LJ
ps- tommorrow i will try to drive to work and work for a few hours-mostly paperwork
some eves my computer gets hijacked by younger members of my family
