I have run into a minor problem here.  I'm towards the very end of my lengthening phase and the centimeters from the number of clicks I have counted, is less than the centimeters I got from measuring my x-rays, using Osirix.  There is quite a bit of difference and am not sure why.  I have read from some members, that the actual distraction increases more than . 07 per click as you distract more.  Is this true?? Or am I doing something incorrectly here?

The x-rays shows much more distractions than what my clicks add up to.  Has any Betz patients experienced this??

Yes it is true, x-ray always shows more distraction than clicks, usually 0.5cm more. But I wouldn´t believe on them, I would believe in the final height, that from what I saw is around 1 cm less comparing to what xray shows...It is what most of the patients I met experienced.

I'm not sure which one to go by to be honest.  Some Betz patients I have spoken to say the measurements from the x-rays is more accurate than the number of clicks.  So I'm not sure which one to believe.

I just had x-rays taken this morning and when I measured the gap using Osirix, it showed close to 2CM more.  Thats a huge difference!

+10 cm femurs with Betzbone

Hi,
which nail do you have, the Betzbone?
And how does the Osirix program know how much pixels one centimeter is? This information should be contained in your x-ray file, and it could be wrong.  Anyway, for a proper evaluation (of any measurement parameter) it is always more precise to refer to an internal standard.  This could be the diameter of your nail in this case.  So if you evaluate your bone gap by comparing it to the diameter of your nail, do you still get such a large deviation?

As I said, Xray is not accurate, usually 0,5 cm more than clicks. But clicks are not accurate too. Your new height is the best parameter, and from my experience your new height will be 1cm less than your xrays or 0,5cm less than your clicks...But as I said it is my experience and the experience of some other patients I talked to.

I think we need to be specific here and state that the most accurate measurement would be your height several months after lengthening...measuring your height immediately after lengthening will introduce error due to wide legs and duckass.

The x-ray measurements can be affected by the angle that your femurs are at while you are laying on the table to be x-rayed.

Have heard that the clicks are not exactly .007 per click, but I haven't seen any direct evidence to support or refute this claim.

Yes you are right.
We could say that your future height, after some months, will be close to 1cm less than xrays.

Hi Donnie Brasco,

How are you and how do you feel with your new height? How much have you lengthened? has your discrepancy question been clarified? By now you would have got the clarification by yourself? Do you mind posting a comment about your current life style?

Cheers.
