Hi Agrios I am having my tibias lengthened with Dr.  Paley next month.   Did you need to get a gastro-soleus recession?

Nope I didn't need to. I had good rom going into the surgery.

Good luck Smiley Hope you decide to write a diary too.

Today I hit 2cm! I'll post x-rays next week after my checkup.

Time goes by extremely fast once you get into a routine. I must say that this entire process (tibia) is so much easier and pain free than femurs.

For those concerned about lodging, don't stay at Springfield. The power goes out sometimes and is it bit inconvenient. The ERC machines uses an outlet on the wall and while I'm lengthening in praying the power doesn't go out. The only reason I'm staying here is because Homewood doesn't have room Sad

The wifi here is okay. Netflix doesn't stream that great but it's watchable.

I'm seeing a lot of LL patients doing their femurs.  ~3 others doing their tibia. I'll ask if I can share their stories since none are posting diaries on this site.

Pain: 0
Sleep: Back to normal. I can sleep on my side, stomach, back. No discomfort.
PT: 3 times a day. Mostly stretching the calf and Achilles' tendon.

That's it. Nothing else to report.

Can you walk or you use wheelchair? Are you using walker or crutches in case you can walk? If you use crutches how do you manage with walking and putting proper weight on leg when taking step??

Glad to hear your journey is going without any problems so far. Smiley Keep us updated please. I don't answer everything in your diary but I read every update and looking forward for pics/x-rays Smiley. Take care Agrios and fight for your height Smiley

I use a walker to assist with my walking. I don't like the feel of the crutches, I find it a bit unstable. I do see a few femur patients use crutches and they move very well. I don't stare at their walking, but I think they put one foot in front of the other almost like having regular gait.

Femur patients can stand with 75lbs per leg, so if they weight less than 150lbs they can put their entire body weight on the crutches (not that I recommend doing that). The weight bearing for tibia patients vary. Some have the smaller nail that can only withstand 50lbs per leg. Me and some other person are the only ones currently that have the reinforced precice nail that allows 75lbs per leg.

I'd rather play it safe. I am mostly in my wheelchair when I am out, but I do use my walker at home to get around.

Hey Agrios. Congrats on making a decision to do your Tibias as well after doing Femurs knowing what you're getting into. Brave is what i'd describe you. All the best and good luck and hope you achieve your goal. I'll be reading and watching your diary as you progress as i did when i did my surgery last year. Smiley

26.50mm.

I'm about 1/3 done.

Dorsiflexion is about 25 degrees on both legs.

I don't have any pain and sleep is very good.

Here are the x-Rays.

4.75cm today.

Lengthening .75mm a day. Stretching 3-4 times daily. Been really focusing on my Achilles' tendon and trying to prevent knee bending.

More than half done. Still haven't decided if I'll stop at 7, 7.5, or 8 (doubt it). Still need 2.25cm to reach my minimum (30 more days). I don't think I'll get significant ballerina foot with 2.25cm left to lengthen?

Dorsiflexion is still good. Getting about 16 degrees on both legs during pt. I've been wearing the splints for about 21-22 hours a day. I was asked if it was uncomfortable and it's not. Since the surgery I actually feel more comfortable in my splints.

Scars look fantastic. I am confident that it won't be noticeable. Tbh it looks a lot better than my femur scars.

I was told my bone growth is good. Dr Paley said everything looks good.

Sleep gets better and better. I remember the first few days where I couldn't sleep straight through the night and now it is no problem.

There is no pain, at all. Was expected excruciating pain this time around since I got lucky and had little pain with femurs. I have to say, tibia is so much easier, pain wise and mobility.

That's it for now.

This question goes out to anyone of you guy commenting here that went through the Precise 2 process:

After what you've gone through or are going through, do you think it is realistic to be able to take 1 or 2 Masters Level online courses while going through the recovery (primarily lengthening) process? Or does it take that much energy out of you that you cannot fit in any studying throughout the day?

Depends on your age and flexibility.  I'm 32 and tight and it hurts like all hell.  I can't even spare a second to jack to some porn.

So you were in a wheelchair for the whole duration of lengthening and consolidation?  Which can be like 5 months, right?

I'd also be curious to hear when you were able to do work (on a laptop) and when in recovery you could depart WPB.

Wow itís been a while! I havenít thought about LL in so long. Iíll do an in-depth review and overal thoughts in the coming weeks. Iíve been living a pretty normal life post LL, but Iíll get more into it soon. I have scheduled the removal of the tibia nails and Iíll report back in a few weeks when Iím there.

Hi, I'm considering LL with Dr.  Paley       Did anyone of you who have gone through this process concerned about complications?

Thanks

People go to Dr Paley to fix their complications from unexpirenced doctors. I do not have any complications and I do not know of people who really had complications. You have to remember, I can safely say back in 2015, Dr. Paley had hundreds of patients with leg deformities and they all come out fine. In my opinion safety should be your top priority and I canít think of a safer and more expirenced doctor and team.

So you were in a wheelchair for the whole duration of lengthening and consolidation?  Which can be like 5 months, right?

I donít know if the precise rod changed. I know they are constantly improving it. I think it did get better and you may be able to fully weightbear with crutches (I did see a few LL patients with internal rods walking around). I chose to stay in the chair because I didnít want to risk breaking anything.

You can definitely get work done on your laptop during the entire process. Your best bet is to have someone with you assisting with everything though. I canít imagine doing this alone.
