Here are the responses from Kurgan, updating their information with 2012 pricing and details.

1. How many patients have been treated by you for Cosmetic Leg Lengthening?
The Russian Ilizarov Scientific Centre “Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics”, Kurgan, Russia has been practicing growth regulation procedures for more than 40 years and height enhancement was performed for over 1000 patients including people of low height and normal individuals with ‘subjectively’ low height (more than 300 cases of the latter).

2. Which techniques do you use?
The Ilizarov external fixator is used to lengthen lower limb segments for height enhancement.

3. How much do you your currently charge for cosmetic LL for each procedure? When will these prices change?
Treatment fee would depend on the amount of lengthening, in-patient conditions and duration of inpatient stay and it is less than other hospital would charge for the procedure. Please see the following link for information:

4. What are the lengthening limits for your procedures?
For patients with ‘subjectively’ low height the amount of lengthening would be discussed in each individual case after proper examination and anthropometric assessment – it varies from reasonably sufficient to ‘unreasonable order’, being 5 cm to 20 cm. Height enhancement of 10 cm is produced at one stage, greater values would require two staged treatment. Patients with low height (these are normally people with systemic skeletal diseases) may have their height enhanced by 45 cm and over.

5. Do your patients need to do any preparation before for their treatment?
It would be helpful for the patients to visit the Centre to talk to both doctors and patients who are at various stages of treatment at the hospital. No specific preparation is arranged for the patients before the treatment.

6. Is accommodation including in your pricing?
Treatment fee covers surgical intervention, accommodation, meals, exercise therapy and procedures involved into height enhancement. Please see the following link for information:

7. Are there any medical conditions that would prevent a potential patient from being accepted?
Somatic diseases are an absolute contraindication to operative limb lengthening. Vascular and neurologic disorders, infection of the tissues in limb segments and adjacent joints are a relative contraindication to orthopaedic procedure.

8. In what percentage of cases do your patients experience complications?
The majority of the patients with low (96.3%) and subjectively low height (95.4%) had excellent and good results. In 5% of the patients of both groups results were assessed as fair.  No poor results were observed. Complications that could occur during treatment were arrested during treatment and did not affect on the final result.

9. Are complications or unscheduled surgery covered in your costs?
All unscheduled procedures are covered in the costs.

10. Is there any insurance available to cover the patient's treatment?
The Center does not provide insurance (there hasn’t been a single occurrence at the Centre).

11. What is your official web-site?
Our official website is
