1) Is Gastrocnemius Release surgery safe to treat severe Equinus/Ballerina ? Are there any long term complications associated with this surgery ? What is the recovery period ? How long will it take to walk after undergoing this surgery ?

2) Which one is safe/better option among (Gastrocnemius Release) VS (achilles tendon lengthening) ?

Information on this would be very helpful who are suffering from severe Equinus/Ballerina.
Please add as much information as possible to this thread.

Thank you

From what Ive read and from what others have said the gastrocs is the better of the two but neither are recommended. Messing around with soft tissues is fraught with danger, Achilles' tendon lengthening can seriously weaken the tendon and can put you at risk of future tears. Muscles dont heal well when torn, the muscles glue back together with a kind of collagen and it has poor blood supply and poor elasticity. Neither are good ideas imo

Found a good article:

https://www.hss.edu/files/LL-What_Risk_Factors_Predict_Usage_of_Gastrocsoleus_Recession_During_Tibial_Lengthening.pdf

It says:

We found a mean tibial lengthening of greater than 42 mm, a tibial lengthening of greater than 13% of original bone length, increased age, and a congenital etiology to be risk factors for equinus contracture and a consequent GSR. This is consistent with previous studies (Table 6), which found that equinus contracture is related to lengthening rate, etiology, amount of lengthening, and the condition of the gastrocsoleus-Achilles tendon complex

Move it to where?

First, I would like to thank you for creating this forum.
