This is the poll for MEN - please see the other thread for WOMEN.

Please select your current height so that we have a proper survey of the heights of the men in our community.

You can only see the results once you vote Smiley

Cheers,

Hmm... Looks like we're forming a perfect bell-curve around 5'7" which is where I would have expected - about the global average height for man, but less than the European / North American average.

The average height for men varies from country to country, and there is no such universal average height, and definitely not 5'7  Roll Eyes

There is no absolute figure, but it's probably somewhere around 5'7" if you include Asia. It varies by country, though - you can go on Wiki for a summary.

Almost a perfect bell curve - it's what you'd expect, but it's always good when things work out as they should Smiley

I am not sure what this poll says.  It should probably have specified pre-LL height.  If there is a mixture, we have two different populations in one poll.

It is unsurprising that is somewhat left-skewed.  What is surprising is that if we assume the majority of voters are pre-LL, then the mode is nearly the North American/European average (I believe 5'9" is the usual figure given).  If there are a lot of post-LLers, then this is less interesting but would make a little more sense to me.

If I were anywhere near average, 5'6" or 5'7" and above, I wouldn't even consider this operation.  This is major surgery.  I'm only doing it because I am a 5'3" circus freak.  I am not saying it's wrong if someone near average wants to gain a little extra height, but I think people really need to think this through and weigh the risks and benefits.

It says quite clearly that it's aim is to identify the height range of our community Smiley

Wikipedia lists average heights for many regions.  Does 172.7 cm seem tall for the world (unless you're from the Dinaric Alps!) considering Asia is probably 1/2 or more of the worlds population?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height

I found this site on the more statistical stuff about height, but it nicely compares the Dutch, Japanese, Germans, and Americans for men and women.

Hey, where's the 5 feet 4.5 inch option? That half inch counts ya know  Wink

Looking at the wiki, I'm amazed height varies so much. I'd be really depressed if I was living in the Netherlands!

You can either type 64.5 inches or convert to centimeters.  So for you, use 164 cm (64.5 in * 2.54 cm/in).  Smiley

If I were anywhere near average, 5'6" or 5'7" and above, I wouldn't even consider this operation.

Erm, you might think 5'6" or 5'7" is average, but think again.  It's more like 5'11", *provided* you exclude Asian immigrants.
That 4 or 5 inches makes a *hell* of a difference.  I'm *almost* 5'8", and I am definitely perceived as short.  I know because of the sarky remarks every now and then that I get
from friends and colleagues.  But of course you've only got to use your eyes.  If you look around and every bloke is at least 3 inches taller, except for the Asian guy in the corner
(and even a lot of Asians are taller than me), then you know you're short.
Just cos you're shorter doesn't mean us 5'7-8" guys aren't also short.

It's really interesting that most of the blokes here appear to be 5'8".  Arguably validates my belief that 5'8" *is* short.  We all just want to be normal!

Yes, it's a pretty normal bell curve of male height... Which is another reason that people who are 'short' should be praying that LL doesn't become easier or cheaper because people at all heights would do it, eradicating the benefit for shorter people.

Everyone wants to be taller - not just 'short' people Wink

I disagree. While I don't have complete belief in collective intelligence, I think most people are intelligent enough to realize that there is an ideal range to height for efficiency (i.e. function and status). You can be too tall just as you can be too short.

Yao Ming and Shaq, for example, can't fit into most cars, doorways, beds, etc list goes on and many women won't date them bc of their height. I bet there are plenty more things they encounter on a daily basis that make their lives less pleasant due to their height. If it wasn't for the NBA or some alike sport or tactical purpose to make use of their height, they would probably be quite miserable people. Likewise, I'm sure plenty of people inches shorter than them wish they were a bit shorter at times. You could argue that if everyone were their height then houses, cars, beds etc would be built differently as standard, but I think that is impractical if not unrealistic for many reasons.

IMO, ideal, and - more importantly - efficient, height is 6' to 6'4". There are many practical reasons for this. I would like to think most people would realize this when they give it some thorough thought.

I am 161,the shortest of the shortest I think.
yeah,I think 5.8 is OK for me,once I am normal, not many big guys can beat me eaither in Carreer or attracting girls. If we are near to normal height, women start to weigh you with other things like character, wealth and status.
LIke most of the short guys here, from your comments and articales, even dairies,I can tell you guys are really outstandingly smart.
According to the HUGE amount of efforts needed to get LL done, I think what most of LLers want is not to be successful by a taller height then average, but to be the normal height then allow their Intellence, personality, humor, smartness and attractive faces to SHINE!!
Then they can gain what they deserve as a brilliant person in heart and brain regardless of the god damn SHORT height!!
